This Morning I Published a Book in My Pajamas
.. How it got in my pajamas, I don’t know. Paraphrasing the immortal Groucho Marx today, as I announce with great fanfare (anyone hear trumpets?) the publication of my newest book The Reason for the Season. You can download it now to your Kindle and in a matter of days, depending on how quickly Amazon Create Space moves its cyberspatial butt, it will be available as an honest-to-god, real book that you can hold in your hands. And by the way, I’d be happy to autograph it for you. I have to say that of all the books I’ve written, I take the most pride in this one. I put a lot of work into it, as did my team of beta writers, my editor, cover designer and formatting provider. But the whole time, I was the one in charge. I called the shots. The buck stopped with me. The story is close to home, based on my participation in the annual Christmas Cantata put on by my church, Pearsall Memorial Presbyterian of Wilmington and St. Jude’s Metropolitan Community Church, which ministers to the local LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) community. As far as I know, The Reason for the Season is the first Christmas themed mystery/suspense novel taking place in North Carolina to feature legalized same sex marriage. Not to mention reality television. Ideas for it came from all kinds of places—stories I’d thought about writing years ago but never started, the experience of a friend of mine when his partner had a stroke, current events and reality television. Putting it all together took more time than I thought it would, but I’m pleased with the result. More than pleased. I think it’s frickin’ awesome. Yes, I know it’s up to readers to decide if what I’ve written is any good. But this time around, I can say I’ve taken what I’ve learned in my self publishing journey and I did my level best and then some to create a high quality work that is worth reading.
